Green Thumbs????

Andrew - Lucy is a much better gardener than me and I know you all must think it pains me to say it but it’s true. For some reason that only God, in all Her infinite wisdom, knows Lucy can make a cutting, stick it in the ground and up will come a tree/bush/herb/vegetable even more luscious than the original one.
Me? Well I love to garden, I even quite fancy myself as a bit of a green thumb but alas it is not to be. I have 2 raised garden beds that for the last 4 years I have been attempting to turn into a vegetable and herb garden. Now I know my friend keeps telling me that if the tag says, “Needs full sun” then follow those simple rules and you will be fine. However our garden beds are in full shade (partial shade at best) and I have ignored her advice and continued to plant things that we would really like to have growing despite their sun needs.
When our last attempt turned up their roots and died I decided we needed to make a concerted effort to improve our gardening situation. So Gusband and I created our hanging herb garden.  Every evening Gusband can be found taking cuttings for dinner and we both grin at each other smugly as if we are the only people who have ever grown sage.
If anyone ever needs some thyme

So although I would never spend hundreds of dollars on bamboo and assume it would just grow into a great big screen, we are getting better at this gardening caper.

Now if I can just bring that $24 worth of hydrangeas back to life…..

Happy gardening campers. xx

Lucy – Oh Andrew you have come ahead in leaps & bounds. I’m sure it has nothing to do with reading the label.
It seems you have finally learnt that vegetables will not grow in the full shade of your garden bed.
Those herbs look super happy on the sunny deck, Go figure!
Well I am glad you mentioned my Bamboo. I purchased one plant which had 3 sticks of bamboo on it, this cost $240.00. I told a few white lies to sawusband, at the time he thought it was around $100.00 (to which he nearly keeled over at that price). Anywho, I needed a screen to block out the neighbours & this seemed the perfect solution. I was praying that it grew & so it did.
It seems a little "Jack & the Bean Stalk" now! I swear it grew over night.

You can even see it above the roof line from the front of the house

So if you couln't guess I am a little bit proud of my bamboo. Thank god it grew, can you imagine explaining that $100 so badly spent.
Todays lesson is:  If in doubt, soften the blow with a little white lie.
Happy gardening.
