How I like to spend my time - quite a good book actually |
We were met at the train station by the manager of the apartment we are staying in. Well… sort of met. The guy, who’s name happens to be Andrew was without a sign so Gusband ended up sending him a text message while standing right beside him. Spooky.
Once again our apartment is on the top floor with only stairs to access it, which wouldn’t be so bad if we weren’t carting around 5 bags all getting heavier by the day. But as Richard Gere said in Pretty Woman, it’s on the top floor “because it’s the best.”
So first things first. How do we access the wifi? And where is the nearest supermarket because we have gin but no tonic. Internet sorted and 60 euros later we have been to the supermarket. Busy people.
Tomorrow has been declared “rest day”, which for me is most days but it will be interesting to see how the shoppers go. Shops are all closed here tomorrow, so very different from the touristy destinations of Bellagio and Venice. They did buy a whole lot of ingredients so I think my 2 travel companions are planning on cooking me an Italian feast with an Australian twist… at least, I live in hope.
Out for a last minute panic shop |
Ciao from Lucca campers. xx
Lucy - Before I get onto Lucca I wanted to share a few pictures of the hotel in Venice with you. I kept forgetting the camera & on the last breakfast we took a few snaps.

my little room in the suite.
on our way to breakfast room, both walls were painted like this.
the main staircase in the hotel, walls painted again
& even the ceiling.
Very spectacular. My questions is, how do they dust all the way up there?
So now we are in Lucca. I can't wait to have a real look around, I have already seen 2 pairs of boots I wish to try on, I think the day of rest will mean I can only stare at them through the window for another night.
I am really loving this place even though I have only been here for 12 hours. There doesn't appear to be many tourists, it felt like we were playing spot the local in Venice. I will definitely have to brush up on the language, there is not a lot of english speaking people, I just hope I stop talking in riddles soon (ok Campers, enough jokes about how I talk in riddles at the best of times when speaking in English).
I best show you all around our new apartment for the next week.
My cute room. (I am writing this blog in bed staring out the open windows)
the main room. I love the ceilings.
the view from my room.
the view up the street.
I would hate to drive a car inside Lucca's walls, the streets are so narrow. A few interesting facts about the car situation here are, there are only 3000 permits for cars given out, so locals are on wait lists to get one & only 1000 car spots inside the walls. Also a lot of the roads are only for pedestrians & bikes. It is really nice to not have all the traffic noise.
The day of rest also appears to be the day of rain, Our very first rain since we left Australia (not bad going).
Grazie mille for reading Campers & Arrivederci til next blog.
Thats it we're going to Italy!... We will be using Gusband as our travel agent, need his number(forgotten the name of his agency!) Lucy, pls send it to my FB page and please don't forget ( like you did the jeans!haha ) ...oh, and does Lucy get commission for recruting us?....we want the same tour... I think....not too sure about the 2 trains and a boat....in a foreign language...we could end up in Sicily!
