A Mardi Gras Party for Sawusband.....again!

Andrew – How is it that every year at Mardi Gras time we end up in Sydney? The answer to that age old question is that Sawsusband’s birthday always falls at around the same time. For years we have been venturing over the mountains to the big smoke to have a weekend of eating and drinking and generally having a jolly old time. Even when Lucy and Sawsusband moved 1053 kms away we still would meet up in Syd-vegas and head out and about.
This year however Lucy remained at home and Sawusband is away. Shall we discontinue the tradition then? No.
Gusband and I packed up ourselves, picked up P-Mac and my 60 year old mother in law and headed to the big smoke.
Were we headed to Mardi Gras for the first time in a long time? Nope we were off for the girls to collect on their Christmas and birthday presents – The Boy From Oz tickets.
Upon arrival, Gusband had a fight with the receptionist and we made our way to our rooms. Our room smelled like smoke (which didn’t help my urge to light up) and there were no tissues – not very helpful considering I’m still getting over the man-flu.
P-Mac and M.I.L decided to stay and chill out in the room while Gusband and I went and hit the shops. There were so many homos roaming the streets it was eye candy on one corner, horror on the next. It was a wonder we weren’t too distracted to purchase anything. Not very likely.
The show was great. We loved, loved, loved it. Very different from when Todd did it last time and very different from Hugh. Shit we’ve seen every incarnation of The Boy From Oz since it’s inception – some would say dull, we would say thorough.
A few wines in the room after the show and off to bed. Our heads Sunday morning said a few too many wines before bed but anyway.
So all ended well for another year not attending Mardi Gras and a weekend away celebrating Sawusband’s birthday.
Now CAMPers, where did I put those coat hangers we bought at Ikea?

Lucy – Andrew is right we always celebrated in Syd-vegas every Mardi Gras. I  still have not been to Mardi Gras but nevertheless Sawusband & I, Andrew & Gusband would venture there to celebrate his birthday.

I must point out that the only thing gayer than going to Mardi Gras has got to be you gay boys going to see “The Boy from Oz” on the night of Mardi Gras. And the only thing gayer than that is, that you have seen it three times, Hilarious (not very stereotypical of you).

The last Mardi Gras we spent together I think was not in Australia at all. If memory serves me correct we were in Bali (not like you two to want to go to Bali).
I always knew you were full of wind
 What's this, Cocktail hour!
 Not forgetting Wine O'Clock
 or Beer afternoon snack
What's this, is Lucy the only responsible one having a glass of water!

Anywho one of my fondest memories after a Mardi Gras weekend is leaving the city early in the morning, only to be pulled over by the police. He thought all his Christmas’s had come at once when he pulled over those two gay men to hassle them after their apparent big night out for Mardi Gras. Until he realized it was Sawusband & I, (the hair threw him for a loop), he thought we were two gay boys, (from the back I can be mistaken for man) anyway with no real reason to pull us over the only thing he could do was ask where we lived & tell us go home! Weirdo! But we got a laugh out of it, while he was left red faced.

Can’t wait for next Mardi Gras Birthday weekend, I wonder if i'll be mistaken for a man again. One can only hope! (it does wonders for my ego every time that happens, Not!!).

We’ll have to try to make it to Sydney town & celebrate.
